The Maitreya Temple Project marked a historic milestone with its Salang Tendrel (ground-breaking ceremony)at Tashiphu, Serzhong in Gelephu Mindfulness City, coinciding with the launch of the project’s official website.
Amidst traditional rituals and prayers seeking blessings, Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Tseyring Pem Wangchuck ceremonially turned the soil at 11:11 AM together with our Founder, His Eminence Trulku Kunga Tenzin Rinpoche, formally commencing the project. The sacred occasion was dedicated to the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Her Majesty also launched the project website (www.gmtbt.com)during the ceremony.
The event was attended by the Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City, dignitaries, students, and representatives from the three Gewogs, including members of the Tashiphu Chiwog community, many of whom helped prepare for the ceremony and warmly served tea and snacks to workers and staff, reflecting the strong spirit of community support behind the project.
Several disciples from across Southeast Asia also travelled to witness and celebrate this auspicious beginning.
In his address, our founder expressed heartfelt gratitude to Her Majesty the Queen Mother for gracing the ceremony and to His Majesty the King for the opportunity to contribute to the visionary initiative of Gelephu Mindfulness City, the world’s first Buddhist city.
The ceremony concluded with sincere appreciation to the local community for their support, marking the beginning of the Maitreya Temple Project (Gelephu Jampa Lhakhang): envisioned as a place of compassion, wisdom, and spiritual refuge for generations to come.
